The story behind Bonnie May Cares
Bonnie May, a Chicago-born entrepreneur, philanthropist, author, and community advocate, is committed to creating change through service and empowerment. As the youngest of three, she was named after her grandmother, Bonnie May, whose legacy of love inspires her mission. Although Bonnie never met her, she honors her memory by building her own legacy through Bonnie May Cares.
Through her nonprofit, Bonnie has launched impactful initiatives like backpack and book drives, shoe giveaways, food distributions, and outreach for children, families, and individuals facing homelessness. From 2025–2026, Bonnie May Cares provided over 500 books, partnered with Nike Factory Chicago and Foot Locker for over 300 pairs of shoes, fed over 400 community members, and supported more than 300 individuals in need.
In addition to her nonprofit work, Bonnie is a successful entrepreneur, founding businesses such as Bonnie May Beauty Bar Suites, Bonnie May Beauty and Barber Shop, Bonnie May Wine, a credit repair service, clothing line, podcast, and cosmetic brand. She is also an author of children's books and inspirational works on growth and resilience.
A proud DuSable High School graduate and Dominican University alum, Bonnie is currently pursuing her Master’s in Cybersecurity and Management. She has been a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, serving her community for 17 years.
Bonnie Hampton believes true success is measured by the lives you impact. Through love, service, and leadership, she honors her grandmother’s legacy while creating opportunities for others to thrive.

Bonnie May Cares was founded with a profound desire to give back to our community and to create a lasting legacy for my family and the people around us. Our journey began with a commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most, ensuring that no one in our community feels overlooked or unsupported.

We are proud to share countless stories of impact, such as the time we were able to provide shoes and clothing to over 400 individuals in need. These moments underscore our commitment and the real difference Bonnie May Cares makes in the lives of individuals and families right here in our Chicago community.

Our vision for a brighter future
Over the next few years, Bonnie May Cares aspires to become a trusted non-profit organization that transforms lives by providing hope, resources, and opportunities to individuals and families facing hardship. We envision expanding our programs throughout Illinois and eventually across the United States, partnering with schools, businesses, healthcare providers, faith-based organizations, and community leaders to create sustainable solutions. Our dream is to serve thousands of families each year, empower youth through mentorship and scholarships, and help individuals achieve financial independence through education and workforce development, all while promoting health and wellness.
